Optician news in brief

Vision Aid Overseas has postponed a fundraising ball scheduled for Saturday May 17 to make way for its 30th Anniversary Ball in 2015. The charity said it was a sensible decision given the next few months would be extremely busy in the optical sector, including high profile events taking place in London and elsewhere. ‘I hope this won’t be too disappointing for people who were planning to support us by buying tickets,’ said VAO development director Jeremy Jalie.

A three-year strategic plan has been launched by The European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO). Originally launched in 2009, the Academy set out to develop a network of eye and vision care professionals across Europe, and this month’s strategy covered clinical practice, education, and research development. EAOO president Paul Murphy said the plan, to be measured by the Board of Trustees and the secretariat and reported on annually, would benefit members and improve vision care in Europe.
