Applications to become a student representative for the College of Optometrists were completed by 50 second year optometry students. Nine reps have now been appointed to help the College communicate with students at university. Rusita Dave, student rep for Anglia Ruskin University, said: 'As well as promoting the work of the College, I hope that I can bring the thoughts of the entire Anglia Ruskin student body to the College.'

The RNIB is appealing for patients with cataracts or wet AMD to take part in new research. Restrictions to cataract surgery and poor care of those with wet AMD were affecting thousands, the charity said. Researchers are looking for 100 people with wet AMD, 100 carers of people with the condition, and 100 people with cataracts. Participants must have been diagnosed and treated within the last three years. Potential participants should contact campaign@rnib.org.uk by December 14.
