Sunglasses

Sunglass stockists have faced a chilling summer. Met Office figures showed the UK experienced the dullest June, July and August since 1980, with 399 hours of sunshine in total. The news comes after latest figures showed a 39.3 per cent slump in market value of sunglasses between April and June (Optician 31.08.12).

Trading Standards officers have arranged for 480 pairs of fake sunglasses to be recycled into horse bedding product. Officers in Leicestershire seized sunglasses branded as Oakley, Dior, Gucci and D&G from markets, car boots and festivals in the area. David Bull, head of Leicestershire County Council's Trading Standards, said: 'We are now recycling these glasses, so they eventually end up as horse bedding. It's an unusual method of disposal but, more importantly, the safest place for them.'
