Two more established optical names join tender bid for DVLA contract

Two more established optical names have joined a tender bid for the DVLA contract currently awarded to Specsavers.

Bayfields Opticians and Galaxy Optical Services, operator of the new M&S Opticians practices have joined AIO, Smart Employee Eyecare, Vision Express, Leightons and Hakim Group in submitting a tender for providing both Group 1 and Group 2 DVLA sight tests across the UK.

AIO chairman Christian French said: ‘We are delighted that Bayfields and Galaxy have joined our group bidding for the DVLA sight tests, yet again demonstrating our intention that the contract should be as inclusive as possible. The additional coverage that these organisations bring, in addition to ever more independents who are signing up literally every day, makes our group bid ever more compelling.’

A final decision by the DVLA was expected in the first three months of next year.

Philip Johnston, commercial director of Galaxy, added: ‘We are excited by the prospect of adding the DVLA sight test to the range of services we will be able to offer patients at our five new M&S practices located across the country.’
