Optics market turnover in Italy, France, Spain and Germany for the first half of 2015 increased by 4 per cent to €8.1bn, new data from GfK has revealed

Optics market turnover in Italy, France, Spain and Germany for the first half of 2015 increased by 4 per cent to €8.1bn, new data from GfK has revealed.

The company said its findings showed an overall positive trend across the markets, although individual product categories varied.

The ophthalmic lens and spectacle frames categories, which represented nearly 80 per cent of the overall optics market, have positively driven the performance of opticians in Europe, with a combined sales value growth of 5.3 per cent for the first half of the year.

After two years of decline, -7.0 per cent in first half of 2013 and -0.6 per cent in the same period of 2014, the sunglasses market showed more positive results, with an overall growth of 3.6 per cent for the first half of the year.
