Optical bodies have received a boost in their efforts towards the inclusion of eye care in the public health white paper after hearing that its omission was an oversight.
Both the UK Vision Strategy and the Optical Confederation are pressing hard for its inclusion in the Healthy lives, healthy people document.
Health minister Lord Frederick Howe stated that it had been an oversight not to include a reference to eye health in the white paper in response to questions at the all-party parliamentary group meeting on eye health at Westminster Palace on March 28.
However, Optician understands that despite the hint that it might be possible to include an outcome measure for eye health after all, Howe gave no actual commitment to include a reference.
