Ensuring that eye health remains a central part of the NHS in the coming years of fiscal restraint is one of the principal aims of a 'massive' lobbying campaign being run by the Local Optical Committee Support Unit (LOCSU).

According to LOCSU, the campaign will encompass local optical committees (LOCs), regional optical committees (ROCs) and area optical committees (AOCs) as well as optical manufacturers, distributors and suppliers.

The first stage of LOCSU's initiative, already under way, has involved asking LOCs to arrange a visit to an optical practice for candidates of the main political parties, with the hundred most marginal seats being specially targeted.
