Optom urges more involvement in PCTs

Twelve months on from a dismal report of optometry's involvement in PCTs, the profession has been told it needs to be more proactive to get its importance across.

Bedford based-optometrist Simon Browning, an authoritative voice on the subject, told optician this week that although optics has progressed since last year's NHS Alliance broadside, much more work was needed.

'We now regularly get copied in on work the Alliance is doing. I'm still not convinced the Government considers the health service is about anything other than GPs, nurses and hospitals.'

  • A new monthly series on how optometry can be more involved in the Government's eye care pathways scheme via PCTs will start next week with an exclusive feature written by health minister Rosie Winterton.
