Optometrist climbs to Mount Everest’s Base Camp for Vision Aid Overseas

An optometrist has climbed to Mount Everest’s Base Camp to raise money for Vision Aid Overseas.

Derek Michael, a director and partner at the Hakim Group owned practice James Kidner Opticians in Annan and Lockerbie, Scotland, completed the walk with his daughter in eight days and raised over £500 for the charity.

He said: ‘It was very satisfying to exceed our fundraising total and I’d like to thank everyone who donated and supported our cause – the support we’ve received by our patients coming into practice has been brilliant. We can sometimes take our eyes for granted but there are many places in the world that do not have the infrastructure in place that we do, so Vision Aid Overseas was a charity I was very keen to support.’
