Optometrist delivers care to Kurdistan orphans

Sara Sidik went to Kurdistan to provide free eye care to over 80 orphans

A newly qualified optometrist at Specsavers in Harlow has returned from a trip to Kurdistan where they provided free eye care to more than 80 orphans in two days.

Sara Sidik and her family founded their own charity, Al Sadaqah, and raised £3,500 to provide children with medicine, clothes and wash bags. The optometrist also prescribed over 300 pairs of spectacles that were donated by patients in Harlow.

‘More than 85% of the children had poor vision and needed glasses with one particular boy being virtually blind. As a result, we’re continuing to fundraise so that we can provide him with the treatment that he needs,’ Sidik said.
