An optometrist who committed a series of sexual abuse offences against two children as young as four has been jailed for three years.

The jury at Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Boo Seng Khoo preyed on two girls over a period that spanned eight years between 2003 and 2011. The case was sent to trial after he denied three charges against him.

According to a report in the Greenock Telegraph, Seng Khoo first targeted the four-year-old in a “lewd and libidinous” way in June 2003. Between December 2010 and June 2011, he also sexually abused her a number of times after she had turned 11.

Malaysian-born Seng Khoo also abused another girl between July 2003 and July 2008, the paper reported.

Both schoolgirls were said to have been in the company of Seng Khoo at his home when the offences were committed.

The 61-year-old, who formerly practiced at Port Glasgow’s David Wyse opticians, where he was also company director, was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely. He was remanded in custody by Sheriff Alan McKenzie in October ahead of sentencing.

The Greenock Telegraph described Seng Khoo as a previously respected figure in the local area. A spokesperson for David Wyse said he would now be removed from its list of directors.

Seng Khoo was suspended for 12 months in June 2015 at a private General Optical Council fitness to practise hearing. The Greenock Telegraph speculated that he would be erased from GOC registers at a review hearing before the end of the year.
