Glasgow optometrist Marjorie Martin who carried out repeated NHS frauds 10 years ago was struck off by a fitness to practise panel last month.

Martin was found guilty of allegations relating to 10 patients, which included wrong dates, payment claims for glasses not supplied, small frame supplements, dishonest declarations in GOS forms, as well as spectacles and prisms that were not justified.

Martin made no admissions to the allegations, did not give evidence herself or call any witnesses on her behalf. The committee considered Martin had instigated a dishonest system to increase her NHS claims and accepted the evidence that the registrant was signing the forms deliberately and not merely as the designated responsible person.
