Optometrist is suspended from the GOC register for nine months

A Hertfordshire based optometrist has been suspended from the GOC register for nine months.

A GOC Fitness to Practise Committee found that Bansi Shah’s fitness to practise impaired by reason of misconduct by falsely claiming to have carried out a dilated fundus examination and amending records to reflect this.

The Committee decided that her informing a colleague that she has carried out a dilated fundus examination when she had not and changing the records to show that one had taken place was both misleading and dishonest.

Shah has until December 12 to appeal the suspension.
