Optometry Scotland has negotiated an interim fee increase for its supplementary examinations for 2017/18.
The fee paid will increase from £21.50 to £24.50 backdated to April 1, 2017. CET allowance for board listed independent prescribing optometrists will rise to £817 compared with £545 for non-prescribers.
Cabinet secretary for health and sport Shona Robinson said: ‘This investment supports the recommendations of the recent Community Eyecare Review and is a clear demonstration to the optometry profession of the importance we place on their work as key providers of community healthcare.’
Scottish primary eye examinations start at £37 and increase for the over 60s to £45 with a digital photo and £40 without.
More talks on fees will to take place in July in light of recommendations from the Community Eyecare Services Review, planned to be implemented in April 2018.
Chair of Optometry Scotland Samantha Watson added: ‘We look forward to the development of a fee structure that recognises the outstanding contribution community optometrists and dispensing opticians are making to deliver world class eye care for every community in Scotland.’
