A Welsh language vision test, developed by two optometry  undergraduates, is to be adopted across the Principality after winning a prestigious healthcare award.

Cardiff University students Amy Carew and Richard Davies, both 21, devised the test as a final year research project after learning from opticians there was no Welsh language version available anywhere in Wales.

Their test was named Best Innovative Practice in Primary Care at the 2006 Welsh Language in Healthcare Awards, and announced at the annual Welsh Language in Healthcare Conference at City Hall, Cardiff.  The £1,000 prize money will pay for the vision test to be printed and distributed to 400 opticians across Wales.
