Optometry Scotland (OS) is confident that universal free eye examinations will continue to be funded north of the border despite UK government cuts of £1.3bn to the Scottish budget.

Optometry Scotland (OS) is confident that universal free eye examinations will continue to be funded north of the border despite UK government cuts of £1.3bn to the Scottish budget.

Lobbying members of the Scottish parliament (MSPs) both in Holyrood and at their party political conferences, OS said it felt the Scottish government realised the benefits of maintaining universal free eye tests.

At the Scottish National Party (SNP) conference OS chairman Peter Carson and Royal National Institute of Blind People director John Legg gave a presentation on the importance of routine eye exams to eliminate avoidable blindness. Carson commented: 'The SNP realises the importance of keeping GOS universal eye examinations and at the SNP conference pledged to maintain it'.
