OSA implements digital imaging standards

The Optical Suppliers Association (OSA) is working in conjunction with NHS England to improve digital imaging interoperability and accountability in eye care. 

According to the OSA, plans for Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standardisation across all aspects of optometry and ophthalmology are rapidly moving ahead, with the first sample assurance audit planned for the end of April. 

Karl Jeebaun, chair of the OSA E-Health Group, said: ‘The pressing need is to reduce one of the largest waiting lists for NHS referrals, and so the standardisation of DICOM – and therefore its increased interoperability – is expected to mean that more patients can be treated within High Street optometry.’
