The second edition of the Oxford Handbook of Ophthalmology has just been published and includes many useful updates, not least the inclusion of information about the latest treatments for macular degeneration, stem cell treatments, and refractive surgery.
Measuring just 18cm by 10cm, this really is a 'handbook' but with just under 1,000 pages it manages to cram in a startling amount of useful information. Even the inside jacket cover lists, at the front, all the conditions requiring emergency referral and, at the back, a revision of first aid for a collapsed patient. There is also a very useful glossary on abbreviations used in ophthalmology which, as anyone involved in the therapeutic specialisms will know, will be well thumbed.
