OutsideClinic has started trialling two electric vehicles with the view to move its entire fleet of cars to fully electric and reduce its carbon footprint.
The domiciliary provider partnered with German car company Volkswagen and two clinical staff members will drive the ID.3 first edition for three months.
OutsideClinic’s test drive checked suitability for practitioners in the field on a typical clinic day and identify what the benefits are on longer journeys.
Richard Gibson, managing director at OutsideClinic, said: ‘We as a company are travelling a large number of miles, and we want to make sure that our vehicles are everything we need them to be. If the trial goes well, we will look to move all our cars over the coming years to a fully electric fleet.’
If the company chooses to go fully electric then it would reduce its CO2 emissions, create cost savings and provide ‘a more pleasurable experience for clinical staff.’
Neil Godfrey, OutsideClinic’s fleet and facilities manager, added: ‘The need for the right car is paramount as it is an essential tool of the job and, without it, we wouldn’t be able to offer the invaluable service we do to our patients. Safety, load capacity, comfort and efficiency are all key.’
