Oxford Vision Maths Set helps vision-impaired children

Stationery manufacturer Maped Helix launched a maths set for children with vision impairment needs, with support from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

Following expert guidance, the set has been designed with sight-inclusive details, such as high contrasting black and yellow colours; large print graduations on the ruler, set squares and protractor; raised text markings/numbers (by 0.5mm) to match braille specifications; raised measurement lines denoting 5mm and 10mm, and non-slip pads.

The creation of the Oxford Vision Maths Set came about after a parent contacted them due to their child’s struggles with unsuitable maths tools. 

Gray Richmond, managing director at Maped Helix, said: ‘We began our research and development immediately and were delighted to be able to work with RNIB to ensure the product we made would truly help.
