M&S Opticians has urged parents to reduce their own and their children’s screen time this Christmas.

Over the holiday many people will spend hours in front of the television and M&S encouraged them to look after their eyes by following the 20/20/20 rule.

Mohammed Bhuta, optometrist at M&S Opticians said: ‘Excessive use of screens can affect the eyes, with “Computer Vision Syndrome” and “Digital Eye Strain” being the most common problem, along with conditions such as “Dry Eye Syndrome”.’

Despite the break from work, many Brits will spend long periods of time in front of screens and recent research has also revealed that increasingly popular electronic gifts, such as game consoles and smartphones, were making the problem worse for children.
