Six European providers of IT for practices have formed the Optic Software Vendors Association (OSVA) with the aim to create, promote and establish stable and up-to-date IT-standards and processes for the European optical market.
Together, the software companies Bludata, Cristallin, IPRO, Ocuco, Retail Planit and Temática represent more than 22,000 practices.
The group stated that the importance of IT for the success of opticians and optometrists was growing all the time. As well as digital information in the eye examination, consultation and dispensing, digital catalogues and electronic ordering were used in practice purchasing, while optometric instruments all had digital interfaces.
'We have formed OSVA to create common standards, which would take a long time to complete if each individual member worked alone,' said Leo Mac Canna, CEO of Ocuco.
