Man refuses to be treated by member of staff because she was not white

A man from Lanarkshire, Scotland, has admitted racist breach of the peace after he refused to be treated by a trainee member of staff because she was not white in the wake of the Manchester Arena bombing in May.

Eric Greene was branded a bigot by Sheriff Nikola Stewart at Lanark Sheriff Court. The court heard he was attending a pre-booked appointment at Specsavers in Lanark two days after the atrocity when he was asked by the member of staff to join her at a desk.

According to a report in the Scotsman, Greene told the trainee ‘I don’t mean to sound impersonal but I’d rather be seen by a white person.’ He then pulled down his t-shirt to show he was wearing a Star of David necklace and added, ‘I’m sorry but Manchester was the last straw for me.’
