
A Johnson & Johnson Vision survey has found that fear of surgery (33%) and lack of knowledge about surgical procedures (21%) have prevented cataract patients from having surgery.
It found that 21% of people diagnosed with cataracts or who have cataract symptoms were very likely to have surgery, which the contact lens company said meant patients were putting their eyesight at risk.
Sam Whiting, UK and Ireland general manager of surgical vision at Johnson & Johnson Vision, said: ‘Cataracts affect many of us in the UK but can be easily treated with surgery. We want to strongly encourage people to prioritise their eyes and visit their optician for regularly for check-ups and, when needed, to seek treatment.’
