The first-ever peer review group for optometrists with a Therapeutics Speciality will take place at next week's (May 28-31) British Contact Lens Association's (BCLA) Clinical Conference which takes place in Manchester.

Led by BCLA council member Susan Bowers, the session will run on the first day of the conference from 12pm-1pm. Practitioners will present real-life patient cases with all the problems and pitfalls encountered. Each peer group will then be asked to suggest possible solutions.

Cases covered will include recurrent erosion syndrome, episcleritis and allergic conjunctivitis. The meeting is approved for one Additional Supply (AS) point.

Three more AS points are also available later that day at a special session on 'Differentiating the red eye - the clinician's dilemma?' The three-hour session will feature prominent guest speakers and draw comparisons between differing approaches to treating red eye.

'I hope that in the future there will be many more groups formed to help prescribers to reflect on their prescribing. At this year's BCLA conference Thursday will be Therapeutics day,' said Bowers.
