Perkins appointed joint MD

John Perkins, son of Specsavers founders Doug and Mary Perkins, has been appointed joint managing director of Specsavers Optical Group at la Villiaze.

jperkinsJohn Perkins, son of Specsavers founders Doug and Mary Perkins, has been appointed joint managing director of Specsavers Optical Group at la Villiaze.

He will lead the financial department and hold responsibility for providing a full range of financial services to Specsavers' 838 stores throughout the UK and Europe and the Specsavers Group companies.

Perkins was educated at Clifton College in Bristol and Elizabeth College before gaining an honours degree in economics and accounting at Bristol University and an MBA in retailing at Stirling University.

He joined Specsavers in 1998 as shared venture operations manager before becoming international research and development then commercial director. He also joined the board in 2003 as the youngest ever member.

Managing director Doug Perkins said: 'I particularly welcome John's core knowledge of finance, IT, legal and business process issues and experience in joining me in the leadership of the board.'

John added: 'Specsavers is a very expansionary business. It doesn't know when to stop. There are no boundaries - we try to do new and varied things and that's a culture everybody feels comfortable with.'

We will look to do everything we can to bring the Specsavers proposition to new consumers.
