Personal registrant data leaked by General Optical Council

Regulation
Home address details mistakenly shared during data sale

Personal data of General Optical Council registrants has been mistakenly shared by the regulator with three optical organisations.

Home contact addresses of fully qualified registrants were shared earlier this year with three organisations working within the optical sector. The GOC said the details would have been handed over if a home address was chosen as a main point of contact.

Details of the organisations and the number of registrants affected have not be disclosed by the GOC.

Registrants affected by the data leak have been contacted today (December 7). The GOC has requested that the organisations destroy the data that was shared so registrants do not need to take any further action.
