The family of murdered optometrist Giles Van Colle have lost their claim that the police failed to protect him.

Van Colle, 25, was shot in 2000 by former employee Daniel Brougham. His family had claimed Hertfordshire Police had breached his human rights in failing to protect him. But last week the Law Lords ruled unanimously in favour of the police force.
