Policy shapers named

The General Optical Council (GOC) has announced the new members of its statutory Standards and Education committees.

Members of the Standards Committee will advise the Council on matters relating to the standards of performance and conduct which registrants and potential registrants must meet. They are dispensing opticians Susan Southgate and Rosemary Bailey, optometrists Margaret Mary McMullan, Christine Edwards and David Cartwright, lay ophthalmologist Wojciech Karwatowski and lay members Anne Grocock, Stuart Heatherington and Jon Levett (chair).

The Education Committee will set the criteria for GOC approved courses in optics, approve courses which meet GOC standards and carry out visits to quality assured courses. Its new members are dispensing opticians Rosemary Bailey and Jo Underwood, optometrists Brendan Barrett, Nicholas Sheen and Adrian Jennings, lay ophthalmologist Peter Kyle and lay members David Pyle, Michael Yates and Linda Kennaugh (chair).
