Poll reveals almost half of British adults would not donate eyes

Total of 44% of Brits admit eyes are body part they are least likely to donate

A total of 44% of British adults admitted that eyes were the body part they were least likely to donate, according to a YouGov poll.

Reasons included eyes being thought of as too personal and the idea making them feel squeamish, which 52% and 33% of those polled said respectively. Additionally, 42% said they would consent to loved ones’ eyes being donated after they died.

Dr Neil Ebenezer, director of research, policy and innovation at Fight for Sight, said: ‘This research shows that people are less likely to donate their eyes than other organs, so we want to raise awareness of the precious gift that you can give by donating your eyes after you die. A corneal transplant can transform someone’s life, improving their vision, and allowing them to retain their independence and ability to work, travel, and do all the other things that most of us take for granted.’
