Glazing equipment normally used on an industrial scale has been installed in a high street practice for the first time by optical supplier Birmingham Optical Group to meet growing demand.
Specsavers Middlesbrough has invested around £150,000 on a new lab including Nidek equipment that allows 10 jobs at a time to be loaded and cut on an edger without any human interaction. The practice decided to go for the advanced package to serve its eight testing rooms, plus two testing rooms for practices in the local area.
Its purchase of a 'robot' Nidek RHU-1000 stacker with automated loading system and SE-9090 edger were the first ever by a high street practice globally, according to Birmingham Optical.
