Optical professionals have once again been urged to adopt a new protocol to help prevent babies and young children with eye cancer having their diagnosis delayed.
The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) made a renewed call for the protocol, backed by multiple Vision Express during World Retinoblastoma Awareness Week in May, to be widely implemented.
It also flagged up evidence of concerned parents being left helpless in some instances.
CHECT chief executive Joy Felgate said: ‘It’s great news that last year 100 per cent of opticians who examined children with retinoblastoma, prior to diagnosis, made the appropriate referral, but this doesn’t tell the whole story.
