Practices urged to help the aged

Help the Aged has launched a new falls prevention resource for practitioners in the run up to National Falls Awareness Day on June 24.

The charity has published the Fall Stop guidance document which summarises the findings of Falls Prevention in Practice - a pan-European literature review which aims to improve practitioner skills in the communication of falls risk and prevention.

The Eye Health Alliance is encouraging all practices to support the awareness day by promoting the importance of eye tests for older people, whether in the high street or via a domiciliary visit.

Heather Marshall, head of public affairs at the Eye Health Alliance, said: 'This is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the link between poor vision and falls. All eye care professionals can get involved by organising an event in their practice and encouraging older people in their community to come along for an NHS test.'
