A General Optical Council fitness to practise committee met last week to review the conditional registration order made against optometrist Oliver Wright Stevens in November 2007 following complaints that his record-keeping had fallen below minimum standards.

At the original hearing the panel was told that records kept by Stevens, who owned his own practice, had been below standard over a four-year period. As a result, a total of 10 conditions were included in the conditional registration order.

At the latest hearing the panel heard that there was no evidence to suggest that Stevens had breached most of the conditions. However, it emerged that he had only completed 3 hours 40 minutes of professional courses compared with the target he was set of a minimum of six hours. The committee concluded that he had failed to meet this condition.
