After the recent blinding in one eye of a rugby player in Kent, Optician has started a campaign to highlight the dangers of eye gouging with the intention of eliminating it from the sport.
Optician is calling on practitioners who test the eyes of rugby players or work with sports teams to become involved by informing players about the possible devastating consequences of gouging and in turn asking them to inform their teammates.
The victim of the alleged assault, Clarence Harding, was playing as number eight for Gravesend Rugby Football Club in a match against Maidstone RFC, on January 17, when the alleged gouging took place.
