Practitioners join the board

Eye health

Two eye care professionals have been appointed to the LOCSU board of directors.

The group announced that Abi Page would represent local optical committees (LOCs) in London, while Stewart Townsend was recruited for the Midlands and East areas. It follows a decision by LOCSU to increase the number of LOC representatives on its board.

Page, a dispensing optician practising in Charlton, has been a member of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich LOC since 2011 and is also now a director of the LOC company. Townsend, an optometrist based in Leek, has been chair of Staffordshire LOC since June 2012. Both had undertaken LOCSU's Leadership Skills course.

Alan Tinger, chairman of LOCSU, said: 'We are delighted to welcome two new faces to the LOCSU Board, who will bring new ideas and a fresh perspective.

'Both Abi and Stewart offer us knowledge and insight into the issues faced by LOCs in these two areas of the country. Their successful applications are testament to the value of the LOCSU Leadership Skills' post-graduate course in developing new talent to lead the sector in the coming years.'
