Prime Minister pledges AI plan at UCL

On January 13, Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, met with University College London (UCL) professors pioneering research in artificial intelligence (AI), including in areas of medical imaging and eye health, as a new tech-based campus opened.

At the opening of the UCL East campus, Sir Keir held a speech committing to the new AI Opportunities Action Plan, a blueprint of how the UK aims to boost AI adoption, while companies also made £14bn of investment into AI infrastructure.

Professor Pearse Keane, of the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, who is using AI to improve the detection and treatment of eye disease, was among those who discussed their research in a roundtable with the Prime Minister, the secretary of state for science, innovation and technology, Peter Kyle, and mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
