A campaign to encourage more optometrists and dispensing opticians to specialise in contact lenses has been launched by the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) and the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO).
A leaflet entitled 'See yourself as a contact lens practitioner?' has been produced primarily for students and newly qualified optometrists and DOs. It details the benefits and career prospects associated with fitting contact lenses. It also explains how to gain fitting skills and experience and the current requirements for CET, describing the necessary higher education courses and qualifications.
The leaflet will be distributed to students at events around the UK over the next year, including the Association of Optometrists' National Student Eye Opener Conference in Skegness on October 31. A copy of the leaflet is featured in the Contact Lens Monthly section of this week's Optician.
