Outgoing Optometry Giving Sight executive chair Professor Brien Holden (centre) has been presented with the organisation’s inaugural Humanitarian Award.

The award recognised Holden’s contribution in support of global efforts to help eliminate avoidable blindness and impaired vision and reduce the disability, poverty and lack of opportunity associated with vision loss, said the organisation.

Holden received the award at a dinner held in Seattle, where he also revealed that he would be stepping down as executive chair after 10 years in the role. He announced that Optometry Giving Sight directors had elected Dr Juan Carlos Aragon, pictured with global CEO Clive Miller (left), to succeed him as chair.
