The 175-year-old Glasgow company turned in a pre-tax profit of £895,020 for the year to the end of September compared to £301,277 the previous year.

A successful resolution to a partially exempt VAT situation and improvements in the supply chain were also cited.

The company, with 25 outlets in Scotland and two in Belfast, employs 241 staff, operates a small wholesale division and recently launched its own website for internet sales. Black & Lizars plans to use the performance to grow the brand, according to the report.
