PSA appeals GOC’s Honey Rose decision

The PSA has referred the matter to the High Court

An appeal has been made by the Professional Standards Agency (PSA) against the General Optical Council’s decision to suspend optometrist Honey Rose for a period of nine months.

A fitness to practise committee found Rose guilty of failing to carry out adequate eye examinations and dishonestly making an inaccurate and misleading record.

The PSA has referred the matter to the High Court because it was concerned that the decision was not sufficient to protect the public.

It has asked the High Court to quash the committee’s findings as it took the wrong approach to impairment and sanction, and wrongly decided not to conduct a review before the period of suspension ended.
