More than a third of Brits (34%) were being forced to abandon their annual eye check-ups due to financial pressures of the cost of living crisis, according to a survey commissioned by laser surgery clinic EuroEyes.
The poll of 2,096 consumers found that 33% said they were struggling to afford their monthly contact lens subscription and 16% had to change their career due to poor eyesight.
Nearly half (45%) said they find contact lens wear problematic in certain situations due to a risk of contamination or needing to remove them for certain activities.
A further 48% said eye surgery would likely change their life in terms of confidence and independence and 55% thought eye surgery was a lifelong investment.
‘It’s very worrying to see so many people sidelining their eye health and general wellbeing to make ends meet. The latest treatments and surgery exist to help improve and correct vision and nobody should ever have to leave a job because of their sight,’ said Dr Fadi Kherdaji, eye surgeon at EuroEyes.
