More than 90 per cent of the public are unaware of the damage to their eyes from ultra-violet radiation despite growing awareness of the link between skin cancer and sunlight.
Transitions Optical has revealed research findings on consumer awareness of eye care issues. The independent IPOS survey of over 1,000 men and women showed that while 79 per cent of people associated UV rays with tumours just 9 per cent were worried about eye damage.
On average people spend 29 hours a week outside and while 62 per cent are disturbed by glare, 15 per cent do absolutely nothing to protect their eyes.
