Dian Taylor, deputy registrar and director of education at the GOC, has responded to Brian Mitchell's letter in last week's issue ('Failures' should be forced to comply).

In his letter, Mitchell questioned why those who failed to gain the requisite number of points by the end-of-year CET deadline should be given an additional 10 weeks to comply when they have already had three years.

Taylor said the CET rules gave registrants an additional period of time to make up a shortfall after December 31. 'However,' she added, 'practitioners should certainly aim to meet the December 31 deadline in normal circumstances. The period from January 1 to March 15 is intended as a "remedial period" for those who unexpectedly encounter difficulties, such as illness.'
