A study published in Neurology (May 15) found that among a bi-racial sample of patients aged from 51-71 years, those with a significant history of headache were between 1.3 and 1.5 times more likely to show changes in the retinal vasculature than those with no headache history.
Dr Kathryn Rose of the University of North Carolina said that the association was significant even when factors such as smoking, diabetes and blood pressure were controlled.
