Reykjavik Eyes, a new eyewear collection designed by Icelandic dispensing optician Gunnar Gunnarsson, has been awarded two prestigious design awards, the Universal Design Award 2009 and the Red dot Product Design Award 2009.
The Universal Design Award honours products, architecture and services that are designed to take into account the differences between people of all ages and abilities and to improve the quality of life for as many people as possible. Previous winners have included Apple, Dell and Bosch.
To be presented to Gunnarsson on June 29 in Germany, the Red dot award is assessed on criteria such as innovation, functionality, ergonomics, longevity, ecological compatibility and clarity of function. Last year's Red dot winners included Sony and 3M.
