A third group of successful candidates has graduated with a diploma in ophthalmology through the postgraduate learning organisation Rila.
Optometrist Rohit Kaushal (pictured) said the course had greatly improved his knowledge of eye disease and given him an insight into the management of conditions referred from practice.
The 10-month course is based with hospital eye services, working with a consultant ophthalmologist as a designated mentor. Diplomas are awarded following the submission of case studies, answering multiple-choice questions, attendance at 25 clinics and a final day of exams.
Kaushal said he found the course very rewarding and that becoming a diplomate would allow him to improve the quality of referrals made. He hopes that the diploma will stand him in good stead when seeking involvement in co-management schemes under the direction of his local primary care trust.
