Risk of keratoconus calculated

The calculator aimed to help ECPs make more informed decisions on treatment

A keratoconus prediction calculator has been developed by a team from Moorfields Eye Hospital and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.

It was created so patients would be able to receive a personalised risk calculation and help eye care professionals make an informed decision about treatment.

The calculator generated a graph for each patient based on their individual risk factors to assess their likely prognosis.

Olivia Li, cornea fellow at Moorfields Eye Hospital, said: ‘We hope this work will help patients to gain more a meaningful understanding of their disease and how it might impact them. It should also support clinicians to make treatment decisions with greater confidence earlier in the disease process and reduce preventable visual loss.’
