RNIB calls for census protest

An influential vision charity this week encouraged people with sight problems to protest over the national census form, which can only be completed in print.

As optician went to press the Royal National Institute for the Blind was assessing the impact of its Day of Action on April 4. The RNIB is concerned that the census form is not available in the preferred format of many visually impaired people. The census itself takes place on April 29. Those individuals affected were being encouraged to contact their MP, local newspaper and census organiser to 'voice their concern and anger'. An RNIB spokesman said: 'The estimated two million people with a sight problem will not be able to complete the form independently and confidently.' The RNIB told those with visual impairment to phone the census helplines to 'voice their concern and anger'.
