RNIB celebrates 150th anniversary this week
The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has celebrated its 150th anniversary this week.
The charity was founded by Thomas Rhodes Armitage, a physician who lost his sight, to improve the availability of literature for people with sight loss. The British and Foreign Society for Improving the Embossed Literature of the Blind expanded its work to include improving education and employment prospects for blind people, to eventually become the RNIB of today.
RNIB will mark the anniversary by sharing one story a day for 150 days to highlight different experiences of sight loss.
